Engineering Disclaimer
MissionLine OS™, operated by Fortis Calcs LLC Effective date: October 27, 2026 Last updated: October 27, 2026
This Engineering Disclaimer applies to all technical content on the MissionLine OS website at missionlineos.com, including articles, project analyses, examples, calculators, downloadable templates, one-line diagrams, tables, lead-time information, and cost information. It is part of our Terms of Use and our Beta Program Terms. The MissionLine OS application will have its own terms, which include a disclaimer like this one.
1. A design aid, not engineering services
MissionLine OS and the technical content on this website are tools and general information to help qualified professionals with preliminary electrical design. Fortis Calcs LLC does not provide engineering services or professional engineering advice through this website, and it does not review, verify, or approve any user's project.
2. Not stamped, sealed, or certified engineering
Nothing on this website is a stamped, sealed, or certified engineering document. Content and results are preliminary and not for construction or permit. They may be used for construction, permit, procurement, or any issued document only after an appropriately licensed professional engineer of record has independently checked them and takes professional responsibility for them.
3. No engineer-client relationship
Using this website, its calculators, or its templates, joining the waitlist, applying to the design-partner program, or emailing us does not create an engineer-client or other professional relationship between you and Fortis Calcs LLC or anyone associated with it.
4. Your responsibility and the engineer of record's responsibility
You, and the engineer of record for your project, are solely responsible for:
- choosing the methods, assumptions, and inputs that suit the project;
- checking every result against the project's actual equipment, conditions, and requirements;
- deciding how the applicable codes, standards, utility requirements, and manufacturer instructions apply;
- every document you prepare, sign, seal, issue, or share, and anyone's reliance on it.
5. Illustrative and example values
Example projects, sample one-line diagrams, templates, default calculator inputs, and the figures in articles are illustrative. They are not recommendations for any specific project. Calculators use simplified methods and only the inputs shown, and their results can differ from a full study.
6. Typical data is not manufacturer data
Some content uses typical industry values, for example typical impedance and ampacity values for 15 kV and 35 kV shielded cables. These values are typical, not manufacturer data. Equipment data, such as generator reactances, transformer impedances, and cable characteristics, varies by manufacturer and product. Replace typical values with the published data for the equipment and cable actually selected before final design.
7. Code references
- Citations, not code text. We refer to the National Electrical Code® (NFPA 70®) by article, section, and table number only. We do not reproduce the code's text. Read the referenced sections in an authorized copy of the code.
- Values shown in results. Where a calculator result shows a table value it used (for example, a conductor ampacity or impedance), that value is shown with its source citation so you can check it against the official publication. We do not publish the code's tables in full. Always confirm values against the edition your authority having jurisdiction has adopted and against manufacturer data.
- Editions differ. Section numbers and requirements change between editions. Where we cite a section, we identify the edition (for example, the 2020, 2023, or 2026 edition). A citation to one edition may not match another.
- The authority having jurisdiction decides. The edition adopted where your project is located, any local amendments, the authority having jurisdiction's interpretations, the serving utility's requirements, and the equipment manufacturer's instructions govern your project.
- A reference is not a compliance determination. A code citation on this website identifies the section a method relates to. It is not a statement that any design, result, or document meets the code.
- Other standards. References to other standards, such as IEEE standards, work the same way.
8. Lead times, costs, and project analyses
Equipment lead times and cost figures are dated estimates from the sources we describe. They are not quotes, commitments, or procurement advice. Analyses of publicly reported projects reflect our own estimates and opinions based on public information and stated assumptions. They are not descriptions of any project's actual design.
9. Trademarks and no affiliation
NFPA 70®, National Electrical Code®, and NEC® are registered trademarks of the National Fire Protection Association, Quincy, MA. Fortis Calcs LLC and MissionLine OS are not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by the National Fire Protection Association. Bussmann is a trademark of Eaton. The point-to-point fault current method and conductor constants are credited to Bussmann/Eaton published materials, and Eaton is not affiliated with and does not endorse MissionLine OS. Other company and product names belong to their owners and are used only to identify them. Their use does not mean that any of them is affiliated with or endorses MissionLine OS.
10. No warranty; limitation of liability
